OUR STORY
Josh has been fishing B.C’.s beautiful coastal waters since he was 12 years old. Over the years, his investment in the commercial fishing industry has grown into a diversified fleet of sustainable fisheries. February each year, the Pacific herring spawn in the Strait of Georgia. During this time, you will find Josh and his Pender Harbour crew taking to their skiffs to gillnet herring. In the early spring, as the crew of Young Gun Fishing wait to fish the waters surrounding scenic Pender Harbour hauling up BC spot prawns, the fishing vessel Shirley Evelyn will sneak out for a quick long line trip to bring the freshest Pacific halibut to the people of Pender Harbour and Sunshine Coast. But the real beauty is trolling the summer months in and around Prince Rupert and Haida Gwaii for spectacular Pink, Coho and Chinook salmon. The days are long, but the romance becomes strong.
Josh loves the adventure and thrill of fishing and is proud of the hard work that gives him the title of fisherman. Ask him about fishing and he won’t hesitate to tell you just how each species is caught and all the ins and outs of each fishery.
“Fishing has given me the freedom to be my own boss but more importantly has given me a wonderful livelihood that I can share with my beautiful family.” says Josh
Josh fishes with his kids and also operates their seafood sales business, @younggunfishing with his wife, Jodee. "It's a family affair and I honestly can't imagine doing anything else!"
MEET THE CREW
Captain Josh & wife Jodee
While Josh catches the fish, Jodee will happily set you up with an order of fresh Pacific halibut or that days haul of the best BC spot prawns.
Deck Boss Tanner
Tanner Haase has been with Young Gun Fishing for the past 5 years. “He is our main guy and really just an extraordinary hard worker” says Josh.
Tanner has deep ties to the Pender Harbour fishing fleet. His Great Grandpa Ed was a Roe on Kelp fisherman as well as his grandfather Rae Edwardson. They both gillnetted salmon for many years. “Tanner is a real keeper. We absolutely love him” says wife Jodee.
Girl Crew
“For those of you who know me, know I love fishing” oldest daughter Brenna writes.
Brenna and Lauryn developed a true love for the peaceful waters of BC, as they grew up spending many summers fishing with their dad. Sometimes, they would even hop on their grandpa’s boat and to help him for an opening.
“Our girls have been absolutely instrumental in building our family operation. They are our daughters first, but out there on the ocean, they become our business partners, and we love it!” says Jodee.
